We encourage you to use our ‘Moving Nativity’ to share the Christmas story with your family. Sacred Heart is blessed to have a beautiful nativity set and a wonderful group of volunteers, led by Pam Douglas, who spend time each week during Advent to create that week’s story with our nativity set. Each week, the people of Bethlehem, the shepherds and even the animals are moved around our church telling the Christmas story. Each week, you are invited to look for where the figures are and the meaning behind their location.
The people are aimlessly wandering around Bethlehem. The animals are milling around in the manger. Off in the distance (near the ambo), Mary and Joseph are starting their journey to Bethlehem.
Read the Scripture about the beginning of the Nativity story. Luke 2:1-5
M
ary and Joseph arrive at the manger. The Shepherds and sheep are in the fields (near the ambo). Please read in the Scripture about the Nativity story in Luke 2:5-8.
Angels
appear at the Nativity. The people of Bethlehem turn their attention to the manger. There are still a few people out in the fields (by the ambo), but the shepherds have heard from the angels and they begin to move toward the manger. (The sheep and the shepherds are on the steps.) Please read in the Scripture about the Nativity story in Luke 2:8-14.
The
musicians start to gather and play music in Bethlehem. The people sense that something wonderful is going to happen, but they don’t understand it. On Christmas Eve, all the people look at the manger. The people come back to the town (from the ambo). The three angels move back to the ambo to tell the whole world of Jesus’ birth. Baby Jesus appears in the manger. The light (the star) is turned on above Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus in the manger. Please read in the Scripture about the Nativity story in Luke 2:15-20.
